Rags to Riches 7 – It’s a small world in the end. December 9, 2009
Do you still remember when was the last time you withdraw your money from the ATM machine for only RM10? that was the time you rather walk a longer distance in order for you to go to your bank instead of get deducted RM1 for using MEPS service. Do you still remember the last time you drove your car to the petrol station and refuel it for RM5?
I can still remember all those clearly in my mind. It’s still fresh and warm. Tears drop for sure everytime I remember about those experiences. Yesterday, I was queuing in an ATM to withdraw some money. It happened that a pakcik in front of me took more than 5 minutes just to withdraw the money. I later ask him weather he need a hand or not.
He answered, “Pakcik punya duit tak keluar-keluar ni”. Then I asked him to start again the transaction and I just see it and try to correct if he do any wrong step. He then key-in the numbers, then key in RM10 to withdraw. I asked him again, “Pakcik nak keluarkan RM10 sahaja ke?”.
He answered,…”Yes”. I was about to cry. I saw myself in that Pak Cik 6 years ago. But this Pakcik is already 60++ and he still withdrawing RM10 from an ATM. To continue the story, the ATM can’t withdraw the money for him. Then I checked and tried on behalf of Pakcik. But the first thing I did was a permission to check-out the balance. Pakcik said yes and I found that he only have RM9++ in his account.
SN : Pakcik….(sigh) “duit tak cukup…ada RM9 sahaja”.
I didn’t talk much. I took out money from my account and I gave Pakcik 2 notes (I better not to let u know the color). The Pakcik was speechless. In my heart, I know this Pakcik is genuine. Sometime we may think that would be a scam. Old people buy your heart with sympathy.
The time I walked out from the mart, the Pakcik waited near to my car. The time I arrived at my car, I smiled to him.
SN : Tak balik lagi Pakcik?
Pakcik : Belum lagi, tunggu kawan tadi basuh kereta. Lepas ni dia nak datang ambil.
SN : Ooo…nak saya tumpangkan ke? Pakcik stay kat mana?
Pakcik : Tuuuu depan tuuu….(tunjuk arah Bukit Jalil Golf Resort). Lagi satu nak…
SN : (saya potong)…jom lah ikut saya naik. Rumah saya pun dekat Bukit Jalil sahaja (dalam hati, mungkin dia tunjuk area Klang Lama kot, kalau Bkt Jalil direction yang dia point are all bungalows)
Pakcik : (Hulurkan 2 notes yang saya berikan tadi) Anak…Pakcik bukan tak ada duit sebenarnya. Pakcik ni dari kecik Dyslexia. Pakcik dah tua-tua macam ni pun banyak hilang focus kalau kena menulis, baca atau mengira. Tadi tu ATM card zaman bila pun Pakcik dah lupa, cuma cuba korek-korek sahaja nak keluarkan RM10 pasal kawan pakcik basuh kereta kat sana (muncungkan mulut ke arah car wash station minyak…ada beberapa buah kereta) pakcik pulak memang jarang pun bawak cash banyak. Dah selalu sangat kena samun heheheh tu yang kadang-kadang dalam poket takde langsung duit. Selalu kawan yg bawak kereta yang pegang duit. Itupun satu hal, kalau nak mengira duit nak bayar apa-apa pun yg tu pakcik pun terkial-kial juga heheheh. Tiba-tiba harini macam nak cuba keluarkanRM10 ingatkan nak buat beli gula-gula untuk cucu kat rumah.
SN : Oooo patut lah. Saya minta maaf sangat (patutlah pin number lekat di kad ATM).
Pakcik : Anak tau Dyslexia tu apa ke?
SN : Nama saya Saiful, Pakcik. Saya tahu Pakcik, saya ada anak Dyslexia yang saya jaga di Rumah Warga Prihatin Kajang.
Pakcik : Bagus lah tu Saiful.
SN : Orang Dylexia pun boleh Berjaya kan Pakcik? Macam Albert Einstein, Tom Cruise, Tan Sri this, Datuk Seri That, dan juga yang duduk dekat-dekat sini pun ada namanya Datuk Sharif (bukan nama sebenar). Dengar dia tawkey besar perkapalan.
Pakcik : Fikirkan yang mustahil itu dengan positif, InsyaAllah semua benda boleh jadi. Macam Datuk Sharif yg Saiful cakap tadi. Umur 13 tahun dah berhenti sekolah kumpul besi buruk naik basikal roda tiga.
SN : Pakcik kenal ke Datuk Sharif….? (excited)
Pakcik : (senyap….tarik nafas panjang) dia mula dulu teruk. Perlahan-lahan dia bangkit. Orang Dyslexia ni Saiful, dia suka buat benda yang dia suka. Kalau benda yang dia suka tu, dia boleh buat lebih baik dari orang normal.
SN : (dengar dengan khusyuk…)
Pakcik : Bla bla bla bla…yada yada yada….
SN : Pakcik banyak tahu pasal Datuk Sharif ye…Saya cuma tahu pasal dia di kelab komuniti tempat saya tinggal, selalu orang mention nama dia. Lagipun, dari rumah saya boleh nampak rumah bungalow dia dekat Bukit Jalil Golf…tapi nampak bumbung sahaja lah.
Pakcik : (senyum…..) Ok Saiful, terima kasih kerana melayan Pakcik dengan baik sampai sanggup tolong Pakcik macam tu sekali. Pakcik tahu Saiful ikhlas sampai nak pelawa tolong hantar balik rumah. Kawan pakcik dah siap basuh kereta tu.
SN : Takde apa lah pakcik.
SN : (terkedu)….datuk??
Pakcik : (Masuk ke kereta dan senyum)… Kalau dah selalu tengok bumbung rumah Pakcik tu, rajin-rajinlah singgah ye.
SN : (Lagiiii terkedu)
This is a fresh story about Datuk Sharif (Again…not his real name for some privacy reason) i met just now. A very humble Pakcik stayed near to my house now. Never prejudice to the people, no matter who they are. His stories are really inspiring me to groom more dyslexia kids to develop a better themselves in the future.
This story teaches me, not to give-up eventhough we have so much imperfection within ourselves. In the end, nobody is perfect. I drove away from that Petrol Station without his phone number, but pretty sure where his house is located.
After all, I still remember the last time I withdraw RM10 from an ATM was to buy a few days’ lunch & dinner with average cost at RM1.50 per meal. Twice a day. That was the time, I started my photography career, in a Kasim Selamat’s house (Rumah kolong) back in 2004 in Selayang Baru.
Now, I wish I would never ever forget my root and my past.
Because that’s the best lesson for me….
And for others….
.
Tengok cara Pakcik tu @ Datuk.. Walau pun dia tahu yg SN maksudkan tu dia.. Tapi dia tak cerita pun yg org tu dia... Dan dia sebut driver dia as kawan eventhough driver tu hanya pekerja dia... Terasa kagum melihat org2 kaya ni yg merendah diri... Harap kita semua pun ada sifat2 macam depa semua.. Sentiasa suka membantu orang lain....
